Your children will have their faith questioned.
Their beliefs will be criticized.
Their values will be attacked.
Will they be ready?
Defending our faith is fundamental to Christianity. This class addresses real life questions even as we prepare for competition. This may be the most important class your child takes. After all, which is more important, getting into Heaven or Harvard?
Apologetics helped me understand why I believe what I believe and aided me in getting to know God better. I’ve learned a lot – not just in my head, but in my heart as well. - Hayley H. (17), Cranston, RI. Three-time Apologetics NCFCA National Competitor
A Personal Message from Chap
As pastor and homeschool father of four, I am concerned that our children stand firm in their faith and follow the Lord as adults. Toward that end, I have authored an apologetics workbook, the Silver Book, to make this category more accessible to a greater number of young people. In addition, for the fifth consecutive year, I will be teaching an online apologetics course/club to prepare students for NCFCA or Stoa competition.
Your child will walk away from this class with his/her faith strengthened and his/her questions answered.
A Parent’s Perspective
“This was the best money I ever spent on any class. My son’s understanding of the Bible grew in leaps and bounds. He became more confident in his faith and began helping teens who were wavering in their faith. The best endorsement I can give is this - I persuaded him to take it the first year but he is insistent on taking it for a second year.” - Allison D., North Attleboro, MA.
Class Activities
1 . Students will listen to the weekly lectures over the Internet using Internet meeting software. Lectures will be about 30-35 minutes long and address one topic in detail and then take some a little time to talk about a more advanced question. To view a list of the topics send me a request using the contact form.
2. Students will prepare 22-25 cards if they choose to take the course at a .5 credit level (3-4 hours per week). They will also prepare another 22-25 similar cards. With those cards they will be fully prepared to participate in a tournament.
3. Students will interact with other at a forum exclusively for apologetics discussion. Through the forum they will coach each other, share illustration ideas and discuss their understanding of the topics. In addition, they will have access to an illustration blog exclusively for my students.
4. The Online Apologetics course runs 28-weeks on Tuesdays. Classes will begin September 8th and continue through March 2011. Class will meet at 1:00 EST but the material will be recorded and can be accessed at other times. We will take a two-week long Christmas break and several other vacation days.
A College Student’s Perspective

“I took Mr. Bettis’s Apologetics class when I was 16. Three years later, I now live in an international dorm on my college campus where most of the residents believe Buddhism and Islam. Peers come to me constantly with very heavy questions, and because of the material that we covered in the class I am prepared to answer their questions about scripture, theology, and the basics of who Jesus was and is today.” - Bailey (19), Troy University
Another Parent’s Perspective
“Chap’s apologetics class moved our teen boys from a devotional understanding of God into a deeper theological framework. The classes sparked numerous conversation around the dinner table. Both of our sons came away grounded in their faith and excited about theology. We heartily recommend this course for any family wanting their children to move beyond a Sunday School understanding of the faith.” Steve and Joanne W., Cumberland RI.
